Their family home, Château de la Motte-Husson, boasts 45 rooms, a moat, and 12 acres of land.

Dick and Angel Strawbridge have given fans a glimpse into their wonderful lives (and their many renovation projects) ever since Escape to the Chateau first aired on Channel 4 in June 2016. We've lusted over the interiors on the TV screen and the incredible detail that goes into each room transformation, but nothing beats seeing all the gorgeous interiors up close.

The couple opened the doors of their 45-room home, Château de la Motte-Husson, to give us, House Beautiful, an exclusive tour, VIP-style. We got to peek inside every guest suite and spent the day in the company of TV's favourite duo. Keep reading to see what we got up to on our trip to the famous Strawbridge home...

Dick and Angel have poured their heart and soul into renovating Château de la Motte-Husson in Pays de la Loire, France. While the exterior is a familiar sight on our TV screens, this gorgeous property is all the more charming in real life. This postcard-worthy view is alluring, intriguing and welcoming in equal measure.

Petale, a Kerry Blue Terrier pup, was welcomed into the Strawbridge family back in May 2020. On our trip to the chateau, she was greeting guests outside and followed us as we explored the sprawling gardens.

As we stepped into the grand living room, Dick was the perfect host and gave us an introductory tour, plus greeted us with French champagne from the local town. FYI: it was delicious!

Dick and Angel have been living at Château de la Motte-Husson since 2015, after relocating from Essex. From their family suite to the bustling kitchen, each room has been a labour of love. One of the first suites we popped our heads into was the living room. Cosy and welcoming, it has two large sofas, a vintage-inspired marble coffee table, artwork on the walls, and a classic piano for family singsongs. We were, of course, offered more champagne...

The beautiful Art Deco orangery, separate from the main chateau, was where Dick served us a delicious homemade lunch. Light and bright, the space features festoon lights, climbing plants, round tables for entertaining (wedding receptions often take place out here), and exposed brick. There's a small compost toilet outside, so it really does feel as if you're out in nature.

The kitchen, where we found Dick busy cooking for guests, was jam-packed with an impressive copper pan collection.

Speaking in our My Happy Home interview, Angel told us: 'When Dick and I got together we were obsessed with copper pans. We've got a copper fish kettle which we paid €12 for. I saw the same one at the copper factory for €600!'

From family portraits to handwritten cards, the chateau is filled with personal treasures. It might be used for events and weddings, but one thing is for sure, Dick and Angel want everyone to know that this is their home.

After a busy day showing us around the chateau, Angel takes a five-minute tea break in the dining room. We're big fans of the mural which creates the ultimate head-turning feature wall. This is where the family host dinner parties and spectacular soirées.

The magical chateau is home to a plethora of bedrooms, including gorgeous guest suites for people visiting. The interiors here are opulent in every sense. If you want to get the look, this bed has been adorned with Angel's Moonlight Bedding set in Rose Dawn.

Each bathroom at the chateau has an impressive story to tell. We're particularly fond of this one, especially after Angel told us she found the bath on the side of the road and repainted it herself after wanting to keep costs down!

Angel decorated the whimsical Honeymoon Suite with scraps of vintage wallpaper. Created with newlyweds in mind, it has a grand four-posted bed, relaxing chill-out area (complete with home comforts) and a turret which overlooks the glorious walled garden. Angel gave us an exclusive peek around the Honeymoon Suite and the very special Wallpaper Museum.

With no events at the Chateau during lockdown 2020, the couple transformed an old outbuilding into their new workshop. Filled with tools and DIY essentials, it's the ideal place to hunker down and begin work on exciting new projects.

The chateau embodies Angel's distinctive style, nodding to a bygone era. As we sat down to talk all things homes and interiors, Angel showed us some of her new collection from The Chateau by Angel Strawbridge, which includes bedding, cushions, ready-made curtains, roman blinds, lampshades, wallpaper and fabric. You can shop Angel's range at Wayfair, Argos, Terrys and Next.

Towards the end of our tour, Angel led us upstairs into the converted loft space. What once was a storage space, is now a secret bar area with velvet bar stools, a telescope for stargazing, and some of the best views of the surrounding countryside. Enjoying a tipple up here with Angel was one of our trip highlights.

And just like that, our day came to an end. But of course, we couldn't leave without getting a photo with the TV stars outside the chateau! Thank you for having us, Dick and Angel.
