This could be the scariest Halloween to date. Hershey has announced that trick-or-treaters may face a candy shortage around October 31.

“We will not be able to fully meet consumer demand due to capacity constraints,” Hershey chief executive Michele Buck told analysts during a Thursday earnings call.

The manufacturers, which produce everything from Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups to Twizzlers, report that demand for candy has surged in recent months and with more holidays coming up it will only continue to grow.

Even though Halloween is still a few months away, it’s better to order early to ensure you’re not left hanging when the store shelves are left deserted. Plus, prices tend to go up as it gets closer to Halloween, so it’s smart to snatch up the early bird deals while they last. Buying in bulk is also a great idea for those who have a sweet tooth, are hosting a Halloween party or two, or just like to celebrate all month along.

Retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Target, Costco, and Cost Plus World Market all are convenient, affordable places to secure sweets for the the sugariest and spookiest day of the year.

For Prime Members, Amazon is the best way to stock up on a variety of candy options and enjoy free, 2-day delivery right to your doorstep. Assortments come in all shapes and size, so you can curate your candy package to your needs.

Walmart has a plentiful selection of candies and snacks to choose from, from Airheads to Red Vines, and more luxury sweets as well. Millions of people choose Walmart as their go-to retailer. Between their affordable prices and endless supply, it remains one of the best stops for candy stocks.

While Target is known more for their household appliances, electronics and other sections, candy and sweets are also available for purchase. Plus, you may also want to check out their clothing selection, and throw a few trendy costumes in your basket too.

If you’ve waited for a reason to get a Costco membership, now is your time. With inflation skyrocketing and holidays coming up, it’s reasonable to buy in bulk so you can save in the long run. Costco members have exclusive access to larger supplies at lower costs (plus, free samples)!

If you’re looking for more gourmet options and an international candy selection, Cost Plus World Market is the place to go. Find everything from Dutch licorice chains to Icelandic chocolates. Mix up the candy basket this year with something new!
